Rachel Jeantel, the friend of Trayvon Martin who had a rough time on the witness stand, has been through a lot.  She also has caused controversy, since people were debating whether she was “ignant” and sloppy or a brilliant and misunderstood woman.  But one thing that everyone can agree upon is that more education is always a beautiful thing.

Tom Joyner is a big supporter of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).  He jumped into the fold by offering Jeantel a full ride to any HBCU she chooses.

Jeantel received the offer during a visit to the Tom Joyner Morning Show to discuss the verdict in the case of George Zimmerman.

Joyner said, “If you want to graduate from high school, and go to an HBCU, even if it’s not in Florida but especially Florida, like Florida Memorial, Edward Waters or FAMU, if you want to do that, I want to help you do that. I will help you get tutors to get you out of high school, tutors to help you pass the SAT and I will give you a full ride scholarship to any HBCU you’d like.”

Tom says that the money is going to come out of the Tom Joyner Foundation.  She spoke on the stand and said that she heard Trayvon say, “get off, get off” implying that he was being attacked by George Zimmerman.  Zimmerman’s decision to shoot Martin led to his trial, after which he was acquitted.  Millions of people feel that he got away with murder, and the case is one of the most racially divisive since the trial of OJ Simpson.

So, do you think Rachel is going to put Tom’s offer to good use?
