FORT LAUDERDALE, FL A rising tide lifts all boats. This age-old wisdom serves as a powerful reminder that when one of us thrives, we all thrive. Recently, the call to action is clear: it is time for the native African American citizens of Fort Lauderdale to unite, support one another, and build a stronger, more prosperous community.

    The Power of Collective Action

For decades, the African American community in Fort Lauderdale has contributed to the city’s culture, economy, and history. Yet, many still face challenges, including economic inequality, lack of generational wealth, and barriers to business ownership. The key to overcoming these obstacles lies in collaboration, investment in local Black-owned businesses, mentorship, and civic engagement.

When we support each other by choosing to shop at Black-owned stores, uplifting local entrepreneurs, and advocating for equitable policies, we create a self-sustaining ecosystem where wealth and opportunity flow within our own community.

    Investing in Our Future

A major priority must be economic empowerment. Fort Lauderdale’s African American community must embrace financial literacy, cooperative economics, and real estate ownership. Community banks, credit unions, and investment groups can be tools for collective economic growth.

Local business leaders and professionals are encouraged to mentor young entrepreneurs, ensuring they have the knowledge and resources to succeed. Similarly, supporting Black educators and programs that promote STEM education, trade skills, and higher education will prepare the next generation to take charge of their futures.

    Strength in Civic Engagement

Change happens when voices are heard and votes are cast. Native African American citizens must take an active role in shaping policies that impact their neighborhoods. From attending city commission meetings to advocating for affordable housing and small business funding, community involvement ensures that decisions made at City Hall reflect the interests of the people.

Additionally, supporting and electing leaders who understand the challenges and aspirations of the Black community will bring about more equitable policies in housing, education, and business development.

    Building Together, Rising Together

Fort Lauderdale’s African American community is filled with innovators, leaders, and change-makers. Now is the time to harness that energy and work together across industries, generations, and neighborhoods to uplift everyone. By fostering a culture of collaboration, we can ensure that as one person succeeds, the entire community rises with them.

Let’s make 2025 the year of unity, empowerment, and progress. It starts with a commitment to each other because when the tide rises, all boats rise!

    How to Get Involved:

Support Black-Owned Businesses. Make a conscious effort to shop locally and invest in businesses within the community.

Join Community Organizations. Participate in groups focused on economic development, education, and civic engagement.

Mentor and Educate! Share knowledge and resources with young professionals and entrepreneurs.

Advocate for Policy Changes. Attend meetings, vote, and push for equitable policies that uplift the African American community.

Together, we can shape the future of Fort Lauderdale, ensuring that the next generation benefits from the foundation we lay today. The time for action is now!
