One of the most important roles for FAMU Alumni is the recruitment of high achieving, talented students to attend the university and to provide them with financial assistance. With that in mind, the Broward County Alumni Chapter was proud to present eight Broward County students $1,000 scholarships in order to assist with their financial needs. The scholarship awards were presented to the students at their individual Senior Class Scholarship Awards Night.

The recipients are Geldine Leon Charles and Tamara Luma of Boyd Anderson; Judith Lovince, Ricky Joseph, Amanda Jean Mary, and Nazara Henry Bruce, all from Blanche Ely High; Re’Neisha Lee of Plantation High, and David Hardy of Stranahan High. All of the students have been accepted to attend FAMU in the fall. Congratulations to all of them.

The Broward Alumni Chapter also contributed $9,050 in unrestricted funds to Florida A&M University at this year’s National Alumni Association Convention (NAA), May 16-19, 2013, held here in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Unrestricted funds stated Broward Alumni President Mary Smith “enables the University to have maxi-mum flexibility to use the funds where they are needed most and to advance the academic needs of the institution”.   Congratulations to the Broward Alumni Chapter, and the FAMU Tri-County Chapters (Miami Dade, Miami Gold Coast, South Miami and West Palm Beach) for helping with the success of this event . The total unrestricted funds donated to FAMU at the NAA Convention were over $98,000.
