“King is a spirited soul-R&B-disco artist who unfailingly delights audiences with her funk, musicality, and prodigious voice,” said Phyllis Korab, Cultural Affairs Director. “Join us for a night of music that will have you dancing in the aisles!”

This American singer, songwriter, and record producer is best known for her hit disco single “Shame,” which was released in 1977 during the height of disco’s popularity. Evelyn “Champagne” King went on to place fourteen additional singles in the R&B Top 20 list. Some of her other hits include “I’m in Love,” “Love Come Down,” and “Your Personal Touch.”

Evelyn received the Dance Music Hall of Fame Award in 2004, the Living Legend Award in 2007, and countless Outstanding Achievement Awards for the work she continues to do in the music world. “It’s always been important to me to be in touch with what’s going on in music,” Evelyn said. “I enjoy being in the clubs, on the street, listening to what’s hot on the radio.” King has continued to enjoy success over time, and hers is a name that commands respect within the music industry. Her audiences continue to be thrilled by her compelling vocals and raised to their feet by her unflagging enthusiasm for whipping up a crowd!

Pompano Beach Cultural Center is located at 50 West Atlantic Boulevard, Pompano Beach.
