Event Celebrates Juneteenth at Ali Cultural Arts Center

     Submitted by Kay Renz

The Ali Cultural Arts Center in Pompano Beach is excited to expand the South Florida musical landscape by providing a stage for the area’s best bands with the Live and Local Concert Series, showcasing all genres, including rock & roll, hip-hop, grunge, reggae, blues, classic pop, alternative and more! The series continues, on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 7pm, featuring Positively Africa, the premier contemporary African band of South Florida, specializing in a compelling blend of afro-fusion, jazz, funk, and traditional rhythms. This event is a celebration of Juneteenth and is free to the public, but registration is requested under Recurring Events at www.pompanobeacharts.org,

“We are so delighted to welcome this uplifting and infectious band to the Ali stage,” said Phyllis Korab, Director, Cultural Affairs Department. “This group’s mission is to highlight the beauty of Africa’s people, natural resources, culture, technology and development through music and cultural education, and we are honored to be a part of it, especially as we recognize the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.”

Positively Africa is an African fusion band based in Lake Worth, Florida led by gifted guitarist Julius Sanna. The group features vocals, guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, drums, and percussions featuring the African djembe. The music is a blend of jazz, funk, and the myriad rhythms native to Africa. They are dedicated to “telling the other side of the African story” through music and presentations on positive developments in Africa. They encourage investment in Africa through business, education, tourism, healthcare, and positive media coverage.

Space is limited. No tickets are sold at the door. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

The next Live and Local will be Friday, July 15, 2022, featuring Spread The Dub, South Florida’s favorite “feel good” reggae band.

The Ali Cultural Arts Center is located at 353 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Pompano Beach, Florida.
