Kansas City rapper vigalantee wins Mentor of the Year Award

    From YourBlackWorld

You may want to call him “The King of Kansas City.” Hip-hop artist Vigalantee (aka Roger Suggs) has, for nearly 20 years, remained focused on using the power of hip-hop to ignite the youth in his community. Not only does he work with scores of young artists, he has also dedicated his life to mentoring the young men and women of Kansas City, Kansas, gaining a reputation for being a hard-hitting, no-nonsense leader in his community.

This week, “Vigalantee” was presented the 2013 Perspective Award for the Urban Youth Mentor of the Year by Host Wayne Hubbard and CEO/Executive Producer Candice Price of the Urban American Outdoors TV show.

Roger M. Suggs was nominated and chosen by Urban American Outdoors advisory board for his gallant effort demonstrated in his work with F.B.O.E. (Fringe Benefits of Education). F.B.O.E. was created by Roger M. Suggs and Dr. Denise McDowell to put young adults in positions to compete for opportunity. Suggs works with young men and women as a dedicated mentor and father figure to many youth who may not have much guidance otherwise.

“I stand by my kids through thick and thin,” Suggs said about the young people he mentors. ”Hip-hop has an obligation to lead our kids to light and not into the darkness. That’s what I try to do with my music and mentorship, which go hand-in-hand.”
