The Crockett Foundation fifth annual Community Health Festival

Free screenings, immunizations, physicals, backpacks and school supplies at back-to-school community health festival means children in Broward County will have a better chance to succeed when they return to the classroom.

    Submitted by Joni Fletcher

The Crockett Foundation will host a free Community Health Festival for the entire family on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Pompano Citi Center 1955 N. Fed. Hwy., Pompano Beach, Fla.

This is the second year that the Crockett Foundation will host its health festival in partnership with the ladies of Zeta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority which has health as one of its six major international program initiatives. Other health festival partners include HCA hospitals, Broward County Health Department and Pompano Citi Center.

This health festival is in an effort to increase affordable quality health care for families in need. As part of this community partnership, free health screenings will be offered, immunizations, physicals, blood pressure checks will be given along with Diabetes, rapid HIV testing, cholesterol and glucose screenings, anti-oxidant level checks and Body Fat Index screenings.

Informational tables will feature prevention materials on nutrition, dating, heart disease, sickle cell, and free healthcare insurance for children. Safe Link will also be in attendance with free cell phones for those in need.

The children in attendance will receive free back to school haircuts, back-packs and school supplies. They will also be able to enjoy bounce houses, face painting and  other entertainment.

There will also be healthy refreshments, music and wellness mobiles on-site.

The Crockett brothers, Henri and Zack, both retired NFL players strongly believe in giving back to their community. Henri remembers while growing up in Pompano Beach in a single parent home that they had to rely on teachers, administrators, and coaches as role models and as someone to lend a hand and lead them in the right direction.

Today Henri and Zack both feel that because someone gave them an opportunity and helped them that it’s important that they do the same and give back to others.

Each year since retiring these two brothers has provided a number of charitable events in their community through their 501 c 3 non-profit organization.

Henri states, “It gives me great joy to see the children enjoying themselves at the festival and the looks on their faces when they receive their back-packs and school supplies;  I feels  that this health festival is a great need in the community and I am grateful for all partners who have joined forces”.
