The Hadley Family

     The Hayward Hadley Family. Seated, center front: Hayward Hadley (1880-1967). The man fifth from the right is his brother, Herbert Garrett Hadley (1897-1967). Most of Hayward's children, if not all, are included in the picture.  Photo Notes & News: Politically influential Miamian Charles Randolph Hadley. He was unofficially elected mayor of black Miami in 1959. The Liberty City Public Library, a park, the Hadley Gardens Apartment Complex and Charles Hadley Elementary School were named in his honor. Miami dentist, Dr. Howard Alva Hadley, and Arie Hadley Gary, the mother of Howard Vaughn Gary, Miami's first African American City Manager. He was City Manager of Miami from 1981 to 1984. Also, Herbert's daughter was Aldonia Hadley Flowers. She was the mother of Doby Lee Flowers and Attorney Fred Herbert Flowers. Doby was Florida State University's first black Homecoming Queen in 1970, and her brother, Fred was FSU's first Black athlete.
