Boy oh boy, if my favorite lunch lady, Ms. Monica, had to tell it, I stay hungry. Crogman Campus Eatery is not just a café; it’s a hub where you can have long conversations, adapt, adjust, and get to know what is now your extended family. Many people opt for food delivery services like Door Dash, and I’ve done that myself at times. However, there’s nothing like the experience at the café, or the buffet as I like to call it. The café is open late, until 10 p.m. at the latest, and is staffed by the kindest and most attentive people I’ve ever met.

As freshmen, it’s required to get the all-inclusive meal plan, which includes 4 meal swipes and 100 dining dollars that can be used at various spots like our Panther smoothie for the hottest days and tasteful acai bowls, Jazzman’s Café, or the best wing spot on campus, Wicked Wings. Missing out on the campus dining experience and opting for food delivery is a waste because, as a freshman  a meal plan is mandatory. Upperclassmen have options. This setup encourages you to try new foods with new people and make contacts with the staff.

Fried Chicken Wednesdays are a miss, but Taco Tuesdays are unmissable. I got so excited when it was it time to swipe that Paw Card, which is mandatory—otherwise, you’ll be turned away from the line. These two days of the week are particularly popular, so I didn’t want to arrive after 11 a.m. The lines were long, so be mindful of when your favorite meals are being served at your institution.

Engaging with campus dining is more than just about eating; it’s about building relationships and creating memories. From the friendly staff who learn your favorite dishes to the new friends you make over shared meals, the campus eatery is a cornerstone of your college experience. So as you prepare for college, remember that staying active and involved on campus includes embracing the dining hall. It’s where you’ll find community, comfort, and some of the best food memories of your college life.
