Broward Citizens for Seniors, Inc. fifth annual Seniors Prom

    By Cheryl Cooper

Senior citizens in Broward County are going to the Prom. The BCFS, Inc. (a community based organization, formerly known as the Broward Seniors Prom Committee) will make an impact on and enhance the lives  of our senior  citizens in Broward County, Fla. and seniors of the world by presenting our 5th Annual Seniors Prom.

The BCFS, Inc., has partnered with the Bahia Mar Hotel to provide this opportunity for seniors who are aged 55 years and older. The Seniors Prom is Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013 at the Bahia Mar Hotel, from 6 until 10 p.m. The guests will dance, be entertained, and have a cocktail hour and dinner. Tickets are $20.00 per person for guests ages 55-74 and free for guests’ ages 75+. Ticket costs are defrayed for each guest through the organization’s yearlong fundraising efforts, partnerships, corporate and individual donations, and sponsorships.

Since its inception, the number of participants continues to grow. Last year’s attendance toppled more than 400 guests and this year’s prom is expected to exceed 500 participants.

An 80 year old participant in last year’s prom stated, “It’s just a wonderful time for seniors to be able to dance, enjoy the music, food, and the entertainment. For many of us, we never had the chance to go to the prom. It’s such a good thing to get a second chance at something we thought we’d never, ever be able to do.” This demonstrates and perpetuates the need to honor our seniors and to provide quality events for them.

The BCFS is actively looking for sponsors, partners, and do-nations to be able to continuously provide many unique opportunities for seniors in Bro-ward County such as a health fair, computer classes, holiday socials, community gardens, entrepreneurial trainings, and more.

Tickets will go on sale July 1, 2013 and will be available at MODCO, (Mount Olive Development Corporation) 9 a.m.-1 p.m., weekdays 1530 Sistrunk Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and, Allen Apartment Community Center, 921 Sistrunk Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.  33311 – Saturdays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Follow us on FaceBook and visit us on our website at BCFSINC.org
