Zeta Rho Omega’s emerging young leaders and health initiative efforts made a difference

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Zeta Rho Omega Chapter culminated its end-of-the year monthly Emerging Young Leaders activities with full support from the Health Committee Programs of Service.
The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, international signature programs at Lauderhill Middle School with two of the 2013 Initiatives acknowledged the monetary efforts donated by the middle school officers and girl members of the Emerging Young Leaders as well as the chapter members and community supporters who joined the Strike for a Cure Bowling Tournament hosted by the health committee.
With over one hundred-fifty in attendance, including supportive parents of Emerging Young Leaders Middle School girls, with chapter members serving on the Emerging Young Leaders and Health Commit-tees, who joined the President Joeann Fletcher, the Program of Service, First Vice- President Vicky Pearcey, the Health Committee Co-Chairs, Dr. Lynette Johnson, Dr. Margaretta Kear-son, Dr. Sylvia S. Jones, Keisha Harden, the Emerging Young Leaders Chair, Jeannie Floyd, Co-Chairs, Aniva Lumpkins, Barbara Lumpkins, and Sheree Coleman, collectively presented a check for $1,500 to the South-east Florida Chapter of the LUPUS Foundation.
In addition to the program’s format of the evening, the Emerging Young Leader Middle School Girl Officers and Middle School Girl Members present, recited an iIMAGINE Me Creed, honored the participants who performed at the Mother- Daughter Tea, recognized the First, Second, and Third Place Winners of the oratorical contest, talent showcase, and presented ribbons, trophies, and certificates of participation to the honorees.
Another featured highlight of the evening was the Zeta Rho Omega Chapter President Fletcher, during her inspirational message, shared a heart-felt greeting from the Immediate Past Supreme Treasurer, Dr. Glenda Glover, with letters of commendation that awarded 18 Emerging Young Leader Middle School girl graduates of the EYL initiative, a $1,000 Scholarship, totaling $18,000, for participating in the year-long EYL Program.
Importantly, the scholarship will have greater potential of becoming a four year scholarship with the maintenance of the recipients earning a designated grade point average, while in high school and the possibility of attending the designated institution of higher learning.
