Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle film screenings at African American Research Library and Cultural Center
The Old Dillard Museum will begin a series of discussion forums centered on civil rights documentaries with a full screening of the Freedom Riders at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. There will also be an open forum public discussion at the museum on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. Community members, students, and educational organizations are invited to attend both events.
To introduce four documentaries with riveting new footage illustrating the history of civil rights in America and to raise the level of public discourse on the legacy of slavery and emancipation in our nation, the Old Dillard Museum is offering a series of activities. Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities that uses the power of documentary films to encourage community discussion of America’s civil rights history. NEH has partnered with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History to develop programmatic and support materials for the sites.
