Neighbors urged to participate to shape their future

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Bobby B. DuBose will host an hour-long Telephone Town Hall Meeting from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012.  Neighbors are encouraged to call toll free (855) 269-4484 from their home or cell phone to share their vision for Fort Lauderdale with Commissioner DuBose.

The live Telephone Town Hall Meeting is part of Fort Lauderdale – Our City, Our Vision, a citywide initiative to develop a roadmap for the Fort Lauderdale of 2035. The volunteer committee spearheading the initiative was asked to “seek the perspectives of underre-presented individuals so that a citywide vision will reflect the hopes and viewpoints of all residents in the City of Fort Lauderdale.”

Neighbor participation is critical to the success of the initiative to ensure the vision incorporates input from the entire community.  Public input gathered will be used to craft a long-term vision that will provide direction for future policy and decision-making.

The Telephone Town Hall Meeting is open to everyone, regardless of the Commission District in which you live or work.  City residents with listed home phone numbers will receive a phone call prior to the start of the meeting. Those that are available and wish to participate can stay on the line to share their idea or listen to the discussion with Commissioner DuBose. A recorded message with directions to join the call will be left for residents that do not answer.  Alternatively, residents can also call the toll free number (855) 269-4484 from their home or cell phone to participate.

This will be the fourth in a series of five Telephone Town Hall Meetings that will take place as part of the citywide visioning initiative.  The City has engaged more than 25,000 neighbors through recent calls hosted by Mayor John P. “Jack” Seiler, Commissioner Romney Rogers and Commissioner Bruce G. Roberts.  Audio recordings of prior Telephone Town Hall Meetings are available on the City website at www.fortlauderdale.gov/ourvisionftl. Vice Mayor and District II Commissioner Charlotte Rodstrom will host the final Telephone Town Hall Meeting in October.

In addition to the Telephone Town Hall Meetings, there are numerous other ways for residents to participate in the visioning process. A new inter-active website at www.ourvisionftl.com allows the public to share their ideas, vote on ideas they like and chat with other residents.  Neighbors can also stay connected through the City website at www.fortlauderdale.gov/ourvisionftl, or by liking us on Facebook (facebook.com/ourvisionftl) or following us on Twitter (@OurVisionFTL).

Residents may contact the Visioning Team at (954) 828-5289 or via email at neighborsupport@fortlauderdale.gov to schedule a staff presentation to help your group get engaged.

In addition to staff presentations, residents can now host their own visioning meeting using a new tool called “Meeting In A Box.” Launched last week, the “Meeting In A Box” program provides neighbors with all of the information and materials needed to host their own visioning meeting with a small group of friends, neighbors or colleagues at a time and place that is most convenient for them.  To reserve a box or for more information about the “Meeting In A Box” program, please call (954) 828-5289.
