Popular music festival, Funk Fest, heads to Miami to kick off the New Year with a big give back
Plans to honor Miami community and civic leaders and provide $5,000 in scholarships to Miami Students
Charlotte, N.C. â Variety Entertainment, producer of the official Funk Fest Tour headed to Miami for the first show of the year at Miramar Regional Park. With an exciting line up featuring the best in R&B and Hip Hop, Funk Fest is ready to kick off the New Year in the hottest city in South Florida but in big way. A special part of the Miami festival will be to honor several community and civic leaders who have demonstrated their commitment to making Miami a better place to live and thrive. Funk Fest is proud to honor the following individuals for their tireless service to the Greater Miami community:
- Rev. John F. White II, community activist and leader
- Stephen Hunter Johnso, Esq., community activist and family advocate
- Luther Campbell, aka âUncle Lukeâ, activist and youth advocate
In addition, Variety Entertainment would like to honor Mayor Wayne M. Messam of the City of Miramar and Mayor Oliver Gilbert of the City of Miami Gardens for their commitment to the advancement of tourism and economic development through the creation of entertainment and sporting venues that provide quality community oriented programming.
During 2015, Funk Fest has demonstrated its commitment to the local communities it tours in by awarding over $50,000 in college scholarships to deserving students through a partnership with the non-profit organization, Lifting As We Climb. Variety Entertainment is excited to provide two deserving students from Miami with a scholarship of $2500.00 each on New Yearâs Day.
As for the show, fans can expect the unexpected. âThe key to our success has been to provide our fans the opportunity to relive their youth and bring them experiences that no other show can bring. Thatâs what we plan to do in Miami on New Yearâs Dayâ said Leo Bennett, CEO of Variety Entertainment.  In November, Variety Entertainment announced the addition of R&B favorites Jagged Edge to the New Yearâs Day show in Miami along with a special performance of popular Florida Bass Artists for a special 45 minute âLive Mixtapeâ performance. This will be a rare performance as many of the artists you will see at this show have not performed together in many years.
The Funk Fest will be held Friday, Jan. 1, 2016 at the Miramar Regional Park, 16801 Miramar Pkwy, Miramar, Fla. 33027 and will feature chart toppers like Fantasia, New Edition and Doug E. Fresh, not to mention Miamiâs own 2 Live Crew and Uncle Luke. Funk Fest started in Mobile, AL and has expanded to become a 10 âcity tour featuring the best artists in R&B and Hip-Hop, proving to be a staple among music fans in the Southeast.
Miami will mark the start of the 2016 tour, additional tour dates will begin in April 2016. As always Variety Entertainment will bring worldâclass entertainment to the Southeast with a continued effort to support each community that is touched by the tour.
