Economic progress exposes the politics of political deception

For sure. It’s on now. Right down to the last week before the Nov. 6th election.
And, yes! Early voting began Oct 27, and runs through Nov.3.
That’s right. Broward and Miami Dade Counties are making use of the maximum of 96 hours of early voting mandated by legislation, ramrodded by the Republican majority in the Florida State Legislature and rubber stamped by Republican Gov. “Slick” Rick Scott.
So, here we are. Eight consecutive days of 12 hours each for voters to cast their early votes for the hottest item of the Presidential Election.
It is the big one.
Of course there are other offices up for grabs that have not gotten the media attention of President Barack Obama’s run for re-election against GOP Nominee Mitt Romney.
Black Americans should consider a point that has been sadly overlooked. A vote for President Obama should not be because he is counted among people of color.
It should be based on his accomplishments to date and plans for restoring the economic nightmare that engulfed America during eight years of a Republican Agenda pushed by President George W. Bush.
Clearly, something had to be done to prevent a collapse of the automobile industry. And something had to be done to avoid an economic collapse in the banking industry.
There is no need to say that neither catastrophe occurred with President Obama or Bill Clinton in the White House. Both came about under a Republican Administration.
Yet the GOP, Romney and his Vice Presidential running mate Congressman Paul Ryan, would have you believe otherwise. They would also have you believe that the whole entire recession could have been rectified in four years.
Well, elementary school Children can tell you they didn’t reach their individual ages overnight.
Consequently, Obama being counted among people of color is not sufficient reason to cast a vote for him.
The results of President Obama’s leadership efforts are overwhelming enough to bypass the political deception being perpetrated by the GOP and their supporters in this Presidential race.
And while you consider this political choice, here are a few others of note.
Miami Dade County District 3 Commissioner Audrey Edmonson is locked in a re-election battle against Attorney Keon Hardemon. Edomonson, after being appointed to complete the unfinished term of former Commissioner Dr. Barbara Carey Schuler, twice won re-election.
Hardemon, while being a political newcomer, is a member of a family with a number of old hands in the political arena. He defeated six other candidates to force a runoff with Edmonson.
It would have been nice to see offices available to both. But only one can win. Same as with Rodney Harris and former Miami Gardens Councilman Ulysses “Buck” Harvard.
Again, two solid candidates but only one office.
What it all comes down to is what Harris previously said with regards to getting President Obama re-elected.
“There’s no time or place for apathy among Black voters. No time to find excuses not to vote. We have to find a way to get people interested enough to go and vote.”
Aside from being a Constitutional right that Black Americans were long denied, a right with a cost in blood and more, there is a simple reason.
And that is self deception is worse than the political deception being perpetrated by the GOP.
