    Submitted by Ricky O. Stuart

Matthew Bradford of Coral Springs, Fla., was elected to lead the Florida District of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the first Black, Inter-Collegiate Greek-Lettered fraternity, at its Annual Convention recently held in Orlando, Fla.

Bradford will be sworn in on March 24, 2013 as the 15th District Director of the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters, serving a four-year term. The Federation, one of the largest in the fraternity, is comprised of 40 chapters and more than 3,000 members across the state of Florida, the U.S. Virgin Islands and The Bahamas. Its membership includes a host of prominent and accomplished activists, educators, politicians, businessmen, philanthropists, entertainers and athletes.

Bradford has a strong commitment to leadership and is currently the fraternity’s South Florida area director, over-seeing operations of 10 under-graduate and alumni chapters in St Lucie, Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties. In his professional life, he is an Information Technology Manager with Sheridan Healthcare. In his spare time he enjoys sports, music and mentoring today’s young men of tomorrow.

A 1995 graduate of Jackson State University, he believes that in order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure. That belief, along with his assertion that no backward steps be taken in life, are the motivating factors in every aspect of his life.

A native of Laurel, Miss., Bradford has been a South Florida resident since 2001. He and his wife, Marva, are active members of the New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
