City Of Margate Receives GFOA’S Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

    By Alison H. Saffold, MPA,APR

MARGATE, FL. — The City of Margate’s Finance Department has received the Government Finance Officers Association’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for FY 2018.

“This is a major achievement and the first time that the City has received this prestigious award,” said City Manager Sam May. “The Finance Department has worked very hard to redesign and improve the budget document over the last several years, and I know they will continue to work towards improving the document every year.”

The award represents a significant achievement by the City’s Finance Department. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the City of Margate had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.  These guidelines are designed to assess how well the City’s budget serves as

    • A policy document
    • A financial plan
    • An operations guide
    • A communications device

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award. There are over 1,600 participants in the Budget Awards Program.

The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award and a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Preparation were presented to the Finance Department.

“The Finance Department is honored to receive this recognition, but we did not do this alone,” said Finance Director Mary Beazley. “In addition to my staff, every City department played an important role in putting this document together. This is an award for the entire City and it definitely showcases the great working relationships we have throughout the City.”
