Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

April 11, 2013 in Broward County Public Schools

From Nadine Drew, Public Relations & Governmental Affairs Broward County Public Schools

Thursday, April 11, 2013, is Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day in Broward County Public Schools (BCPS).  The theme for 2013 is “Work In Progress.”

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is an annual event, for children between the ages of 8 and 18, sponsored by the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Foundation. With parental approval, students can participate by visiting a particular workplace of a parent, guardian, adult relative, or adult family friend.

Nationally, the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is April 25, 2013, which falls on an FCAT testing day in BCPS.   The District will observe the National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 11, 2013, making it possible for all eligible students to participate.

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is designed to assist students in formulating some ideas about future career paths. A day at work will heighten the aspirations of students and help them to make the connection between academic success and success in the world of work. In addition, this national campaign provides the opportunity for parents and other adults to showcase their places of employment, explain their job responsibilities, introduce their co-workers, and present the various career choices that are available in the workplace.

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day has inspired a future generation of girls and boys by helping to bring them into the workplace to explore the many life choices they have. Whether you work for a large corporation, own a small business, police the streets, or teach at a university, you can impact a child’s life by exposing them to new ideas and opportunities.

Students participating in Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day must complete the Student Log and Activity Form. School Activity Packets for students who participate in Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day are available at schools and on the District’s website at (www.browardschools.com/info/workday). For additional information, contact Chandra Powell, Curriculum Facilitator, Career, Technical, Adult and Community Education, at (754) 321-8449.
