I am enormously proud to be a Charmer! Moreover, it was a great pleasure to be among the charmers from counties across The United States attending the 66th Annual Convention of Charmettes Incorporated (mentioned above). Charmers are the husbands and significant others of the Charmettes. We have bonded together as a brotherhood to support the Charmettes in every way possible and help achieve their mission: to support cancer research, embrace education, and strengthen their commitment to community service.
Mr. Tony Moultry, Paul Robinson, Harvey Lewis, Terry Young, Troy Duffie, Thomas Jones, and James Hill were among the oldest Charmers able to attend this year’s event. Catherine D. Lewis, National President of Charmettes Incorporated, welcomed the Charmettes, Charmers, family members, and others who were in attendance and invited them to mingle, network, and expand on the need to strengthen community service and commitment.
Charmer Frank Thomas hosted the men in attendance; he represented the Atlanta Metropolitan Chapter of the Charmettes in a truly quality fashion! He provided a special hospitality room in the hotel with refreshments, card playing, and board games. It also served as a gathering place just for relaxation and a Men’s Health workshop.
Mr. Byron Daily, a multiple myeloma survivor and a staunch advocate for closing the healthcare disparity gap, was the guest speaker at the workshop. He stressed the need for men to get regular, annual check-ups and do physical exercise every day.
A guided bus tour was arranged for Saturday, which highlighted the Downtown Atlanta area including African American historical points, HBCU areas, attractions and more. Following a brief visit to the MLK Memorial site, the group had lunch at Copelands Restaurant. The evening capped off with a glitz, glamour, and black-tie dinner and dance held in the Grand Ballroom of the Westin Buckhead Hotel.
Our Broward County Charmers proudly congratulate our Charmette sister, Dr. Bennie Moultry, for having received an award for her 25 years of membership and service. Charmette Sandy Coleman received a 20-year award, and Laura Martin received a 50-year award. Also, congratulations to two Broward County Charmettes who are members of the National Executive Board: Charmette Felicia Armstrong and Charmette Leila Bailus. We recognize and appreciate the valuable support given by our Charmers members who were not present at this year’s convention. With their support, our Broward County brothers raised $575.00 that was donated to the Charmettes on behalf of the Broward County Chapter.
We look forward to seeing all our brothers and sisters, Charmers and Charmettes, at next year’s national convention in Birmingham, Alabama in June 2023.
