     Edwin Harvey Hamilton, M.D., D. Min., age 91, of Plantation, FL passed away peacefully on January 31, 2022, surrounded by his children.

     The Miami Dolphins hired San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel as their head coach Sunday, making him the first minority candidate to get hired so far this offseason.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force announced it was investigating the dozens of bomb threats received by HBCUs nationwide on February 1 as “racially or ethnically motivated violent extremism and hate crimes.”

The two Black women, Brenda Lee Rawls, 53, and Lauren Smith-Fields, 23, died on the same day: Dec. 12, 2021, in separate incidents. The Chief Medical Examiner in Bridgeport has not determined a cause of death for Rawls. Rawls was close to her family by text and by phone and informed them she was to visit a male acquaintance. When she was non-responsive two days later the family became concerned.

Broward Education Foundation, the only 501(c)3 directly supporting Broward County Public Schools, has named James A. Knapp as director of advancement. In this newly created position, Knapp will be responsible for creating and implementing fundraising and development initiatives and cultivating new and existing partnerships to drive the non-profit organization’s continued growth.

     The Republican outrage over President Joe Biden‘s pledge to nominate a Black woman for the next Supreme Court Justice isn’t about their fear that someone unqualified will end up on the bench—they’re just racist. (I know, Carson is technically Black, but that’s one hell of a “technically.”)   

     It’s a  few months into 2022 and sadly we still need to have a conversation about the banning of books in America. Conservative parents all across the country have been storming into school board meetings demanding certain books about race and sex be removed from their children’s curriculum.

     Granville T. Woods was so successful that some would even refer to Thomas Edison as “The White Granville T. Woods.” He dedicated his life’s work to developing groundbreaking and life changing technology. In the railroad industry alone, Woods had invented 15 appliances for electric railways and received nearly 60 patents.

     A former policy official who played a crucial role in guiding the Affordable Care Act – or Obamacare – through passage and implementation, Brooks-LaSure enjoys decades of experience working in government and the private sector. As deputy director for policy at the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight, and earlier at the Department of Health & Human Services as director of coverage policy, Brooks-LaSure led the agency’s implementation of Obamacare coverage and insurance policy provisions.
