Roughly 1,000 schools nationwide have already shut down in-person classes at some point for the fall semester amid surges in COVID-19 cases and battles over mask mandates, according to a data tracker.

 Fifteen-year-old Florida teen, Paulinda Velasquez, spent 11 days on a ventilator after contracting Covid-19. Velasquez made a statement to CNN saying that she plans on getting vaccinated soon.

Frederick and Alfreda Pinkston (Fred and Freda), former longtime Broward County residents, recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. The occasion, “Sixty Years of Bliss,” was held in Atlanta, Georgia where they now reside.

     The “Harlem Hellfighters” helped the US win World War I. The Black infantry unit was one of the most decorated regiments at the time, even as most of its members were met with racism and disregard upon their return home.

     It was 1865, the American Civil War was coming to a close. The south was changing rapidly and the confederate chokehold on the region was coming to an end. Former slaves from Edgecombe County in North Carolina fled slave plantations for Union Army encampments. They were seeking protection from the confederates and freedom from slavery. Not long after their arrival, Union soldiers left for the north, leaving the land to the now-freed slaves of Edgecombe County. They began to slowly build the community of Freedom Hill, incorporating the town in 1885 and naming it Princeville, the first Black town in the United States.

     Zillow, in collaboration with United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and Black Tech Ventures (BTV), will host the HBCU Housing Hackathon to help HBCU students further develop their skills through workshops, hands-on enrichment, mentorship and teamwork.

Led by Mr. Shawn Rochester, MEOA’s Chairman and CEO, and Ms. Robin Watkins, its Chief Financial Officer and Secretary, the blank check company will focus its business combination search and transactions on historically undercapitalized minority-owned/controlled businesses in various industry sectors across the country.

     The Florida Democratic Party (FDP) named U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy of Winter Park, Fla., as Chair of its Democracy and Voter Protection Program. In this role, Murphy will work with the FDP voter protection staff, party leadership, and elected officials to protect democracy by combating voter suppression and disinformation.

We are all humans and we can’t rest on the thought that we are safe in our own circles, but when you publicly interact with others the homeless and everyone else become a part of your circle. So why wouldn’t we make a maximum effort to ensure that the less fortunate are informed and educated about the life-threatening act of not getting vaccinated?
