     In 1921, a White mob entered the Greenwood District and destroyed Tulsa’s Black community. During Memorial Day weekend, the centennial remembrance of the Tulsa Race Massacre was commemorated. The massacre began when White townspeople heard a false rumor that 19-year-old Dick Rowland, a Black shoe shiner, assaulted a White elevator operator named Sarah Page. Below are five interesting facts about the Tulsa Race Massacre.

Olean Pridgen has served as a Foster Grandparent volunteer for nearly five years and has provided the community with over 5,000 hours of services. Olean is fondly  referred to as “Grandma O” and dedicates much of her time at Margate Elementary, where she provides tutoring and mentoring to students four days a week, five hours each day. During the summer, Olean can be found volunteering at other Broward Public Schools and libraries as well.

  Celebrating 45 Years of Sisterhood are the ladies of Phase II who pledged Kappa Epsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on the campus of The Florida State University on June 6, 1976.  Following graduation, these 18 young ladies went on to have stellar careers in the fields of public administration, law, business, education, and law enforcement.  As pacesetters, they accomplished a lot of firsts in their professions, achieved success in both the private and public sectors, and consistently worked to enhance their communities through service and philanthropy.
