     Based upon the comments and feedback I received  from last week’s editorial titled: Defined thoughts on filling the seat of Congressman Alcee Hastings, it is woefully clear that we are in dire need of a LEADER,  not just a seat filler who is there until the next opportunity arises.

Renters in Broward County seeking relief from past due and unpaid rent and utilities may qualify for the COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) launched today by the Broward County Commission. With a $53 million grant from the U.S. Treasury, Broward County hopes to help stabilize housing and provide greater peace of mind to its most vulnerable renters.

The odds were stacked against Ray Studevent from day one. Born to a White, heroin-addicted mother and a Black, violently alcoholic father, his childhood in Washington, D.C., was a chaotic mix of substance abuse, death, and neglect. Salvation came at age five when he was adopted into a loving, stable home by his father’s uncle Calvin and his wife, Lemell. But that is just the beginning of the story.

       In my opinion, I feel that the officer was in the wrong to shoot her because he could have tased her. In this case, Ma’Khia had a knife and force was an appropriate  response; however, shooting her wasn’t necessary.

     For many teachers in Broward County and throughout the United States, the COVID-19 pandemic has made teaching difficult. These difficulties have required us to re-imagine how we teach and engage our students. Utilizing a project-based approach, my students and I collaborated to begin documenting the stories of people in our communities who were pioneers when schools were being integrated 50 years ago.

     LuvHue is an emerging musical talent from South Florida. He selected his name, LuvHue, based a song that he wrote several years ago based on the message of universal love and music as the primary need to unite and heal.

     African American police officers made more than 15 fewer stops, about two fewer arrests on average than their white counterparts, Science News found in a new study.
