Six-year-old Kelly Boston-Hill wanted to help other kids and do something a little different for her birthday. So, she hosted a “Contactless – Social Distancing” Book Drive to benefit a non-profit organization called The Book Fairies. Her efforts have been so successful that she has been able to collect and donate more than 5,000 books. The organization has named her a Book Fairy Jr. and she has been named one of the Long Island Nets “Heroes of Long Island” for being so kind.

Recently, House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Chairman John B. Larson (CT-01) held a hearing on The Impact of COVID-19 on Social Security and its Beneficiaries. During the hearing he highlighted his bill, H.R. 7499, the Social Security COVID Correction and Equity Act, which would prevent a significant cut in Social Security benefits for more than 4 million Americans due to the recession from COVID-19. The bill would also expand Social Security benefits for those most in need during the pandemic.

This regulatory reversal represents a financial favor to pay-day and car-title lenders, and certain harm to consumers who are just a few hundred dollars short for their monthly expenses. In very real and measurable ways, the agency created to protect consumers gave a green light to predatory lenders to continue to prey upon the nation’s poorest and most vulnerable consumers.

Lewis and Vivian were righteous and good, but they are dead.

My friend, I am so glad to see some White eyes opening in my lifetime. Can you believe this racial window of awakening we are experiencing? While I’m not a big football fan I know that naming your team the “Redskins” is a middle finger shot to the Native Americans”!  You good  Old boys could not have picked another name? How about Washington “Coons,?” Washington “Wet-backs”, “Washington Queers?” Don don’t get me started!

The global movement to end racism must turn its attention to the world’s most vulnerable cultures — the indigenous people of Planet Earth — who are still enduring the forces of colonial genocide.
