Last month, Broward County School Board held a Daddy and Daughter Dance for female students in VPK, Head Start, and Early Head Start Programs at Carter Park.

On Thanksgiving break, I was blessed to be able to go to Arlington, Texas to experience the Texas culture. I was able to go to the AT&T stadium and get a VIP Tour and watch the Dallas Cowboys play the Buffalo Bills.

Broward County has extended the application deadline for the Independent Transportation Surtax Oversight Board vacancy in the category of Land Use and Urban Planning to Friday, December 6th.

     Garth Coleridge Reeves Sr. was one of the original Old Timers. Before he died Nov. 25, Reeves was the group’s oldest and longest member. He was 100 years old before he succumbed to pneumonia. His next birthday would have been Feb. 12. He had one employer apart from the U.S. military – The Miami Times. He was its publisher and he used the newspaper as his bully pulpit to beat down injustice and elevate Black people.

     In 1995, Boone became the first Black woman hired by Portland Fire & Rescue. Though there have been barriers she’s had to overcome, Boone said, she fell in love with the camaraderie of the fire bureau and helping make Portland better.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Zeta Rho Omega Chapter’s President Jeannie B. Floyd was informed that there were several chapter members whose families lost everything after the destruction of the Category 5 Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas. This was the worst natural disaster to ever hit the Bahamas.

Thanksgiving is about coming together as a community — and KOP Mentoring Network (KOPMN) is all about kids and community, the Delray Beach-based nonprofit organization joined the City of Delray Beach Community Improvement Department and its community partners recently to celebrate a free Thanksgiving turkey giveaway at Atlantic High School

     Bailey Contemporary Arts (BaCA) presents Building a Feminist Archive: Cuban Women Photographers in the US; an exhibition that features ten women artists whose works in photography provide a glimpse into diverse histories of migration, community, activism and resistance.

     Thanksgiving is a family tradition and rituals designed to spread warmth and love to family members and friends who have not been seen for months and years. A time to catch up with family members’ health, their new jobs, who is in college, new babies, and just to share.  Everyone has a special dish to prepare, and everyone comes back for seconds and thirds.
