   On Sunday, during an NFL pregame show on FOX, Vick — hired by NSU — Friday went into detail about his motivation and what it now means to be an HBCU football coach in his hometown.

   Nearly a week after retired NFL quarterback Teddy Bridgewater led Miami Northwestern High School to a state championship in his first season as coach, he has expectedly drawn interest from elsewhere.

– Florida A&M University football legend Jacquay Nunnally, one of the most prolific receivers in NCAA history, has been selected for induction into the Black College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025, adding another prestigious honor to his illustrious career.

       On Dec. 19 at 4 p.m., the City of Miami Gardens will host a street renaming ceremony to honor the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and its Rho Sigma Chapter, marking a significant moment in the fraternity’s history. The event, set to take place at Dr. Lester Brown Park, follows a resolution passed by the city council on Oct. 23, 2024, sponsored by Councilmember Reggie Leon.

Attending law school can sometimes feel like a long and challenging process; however, two graduates from the Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Law discovered friendship and motivation through their collective desire to pursue their dreams to become attorneys. A chance meeting for Christina Lanzilla and Stephanie Maines through a mutual acquaintance birthed an unbreakable friendship forged during the demanding journey through law school. The new BFFs (Best Friends Forever) will graduate and participate in the Fall 2024 commencement exercises in Tallahassee on Saturday, Dec. 14.

     The U.S. Department of Education (Department) recently announced the reopening of two student loan repayment plans to give borrowers more options to keep their payments low. The Pay As You Earn (PAYE) Repayment and Income-Contingent Repayment (ICR) plans offer credit for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) and income-driven repayment (IDR) to eligible borrowers enrolled in the currently enjoined Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan, as well as additional terms that borrowers may wish to consider.

A government shutdown is not just a political impasse—it is an act of negligence that endangers the lives of millions of Americans. For veterans, Black and Brown families, and low-income communities, the consequences are catastrophic. When federal funding halts, the essential programs that provide housing, food, and medical care crumble, exposing the deep inequalities that have long plagued this nation.

       “We cannot predict the future. But we can create it.” This quote from Nobel Prize-winning chemist Ilya Prigogine reminds us that while we may not know what lies ahead, we hold the power to shape it. Today, Black America stands at a crossroads, facing a cycle of challenges that feel eerily familiar—from police shootings of unarmed Black people to the devastating impact of poor health care in our communities. These events echo history, like a relentless loop reminding us of where we’ve been.
