The Internal Revenue Service announced recently tax relief for individuals and businesses in parts of Florida that were affected by Hurricane Helene that began on Sept. 23, 2024. These taxpayers now have until May 1, 2025, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.

       Black women face a different experience in the healthcare system. While all women may encounter dismissal when seeking care, for Black women, this dismissal is often compounded by both racism and sexism. This increases their risks for delayed diagnosis and reduces their chances of accessing or being offered crucial screenings like mammograms. The dismissal of their health concerns can lead to serious consequences, particularly in the context of breast cancer where early detection is critical.

As breast cancer awareness month begins, Promise Fund, a South Florida based non-profit founded by Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker, is reaching out to the tens of thousands of women in Palm Beach, Broward and Martin Counties who are uninsured, under insured or have limited or no access to healthcare. The organization, founded in 2018, is dedicated to increasing survivorship from breast and cervical cancer by providing guided support and access to screenings, as well as early detection, treatment, and beyond.

       The pharmaceutical giant last week announced it would voluntarily withdraw its sickle cell disease therapy, Oxbryta, from worldwide markets — to the surprise of doctors, patients and investors.

The New England Patriots provided the perfect elixir for the reeling Fins. A four game losing streak heading into a bye week was circumvented by a 15-10 victory over the Patriots in Foxboro, usually a predictable, certain  loss in normal times. But these are anything but normal times for the Patriots, rebuilding and dealing with a coaching change, and the Dolphins, still hemorrhaging from the loss of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Or better yet, a tale of 2 teams. New England drafted North Carolina qb Drake Maye, #3 overall, in the first round but opted to start journeyman Jacoby Brisette because of a weak, unstable offensive line, coupled with other deficiencies.

    US tennis star Coco Gauff stormed to victory in the China Open final on Sunday, sweeping past Karolina Muchová 6-1 6-3.

       “We wanted this game because it was SWAC standings and all that. But also, we felt disrespected that they would even put us as a homecoming game,” said FAMU linebacker Nay’Ron Jenkins, who put the Saturday’s game out of reach with a 20-yard fumble recovery touchdown.
