       The state of Missouri executed Marcellus Williams on Tuesday, September 24. He was convicted of a murder committed in 1998. It was apparently a burglary gone wrong that resulted in the killing of former newspaper reporter Lisha Gayle. Williams was sentenced to death.

       As a candidate for the mayor of Lauderdale Lakes, Beverly Williams is ready to move the city forward.  Williams, a 50-year resident of the city, was vice-mayor and commissioner during her previous tenure. 

    The Broward Black Chamber recently hosted an engaging event, attracting members eager to explore opportunities with the Broward County Transportation Department.

       The condition refers to health problems that result from pregnancy and childbirth and can lead to death. Because Black women in Florida die at three times the rate of White women, pregnancy is risky according to Hill. “It is clear that there are disparities in the outcomes of women in this country having babies. My data from Louisiana, data from Mississippi, and data from Florida made it clear that the outcomes of a Black woman having a baby in this country in most states are poor, worse — more sickness, more death — than a white woman.”            

        The Broward Sheriff’s Office will distribute more than $1.1 million to local not-for-profit organizations through BSO’s Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) grants award program. The grants was be distributed on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 by Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony and the men and women of BSO.

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Miami-Dade County will launch National Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a special event hosted by the Community Action and Human Services Department’s (CAHSD) Violence Prevention and Intervention Division and the Domestic Violence Oversight Board (DVOB). The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Center, located at 111 NW 1st St., Miami, FL 33128.
