An Ethiopian proverb fits Natnael Belay ‘20 like a glove. It reads, “One who learns will eventually teach.” The proverb speaks to Belay’s personality, creativity, happiness, love, and zest for life. More importantly, it references his inquiring mind and love for education, and his strong sense of social responsibility. Belay’s life journey began in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia, where he was born and raised.

The Town of Lake Park is proud to announce the unveiling of new playground equipment in West Ilex Park, one of the town’s popular “pocket parks.” The event was celebrated on Tuesday, November 7, by a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was attended by many of the people the playground is designed to serve: Lake Park children between the ages of 5 and 12.

     The Principles of Sociology class, which still would be available to students, would no longer count toward fulfilling required social-science coursework. The class involves lessons on gender, sex and sexuality and race and ethnicity, according to a syllabus from one university.

   The Florida A&M University (FAMU) Rattlers essentially took the day off on Saturday as they outplayed Division II Lincoln University with mostly second and third-team players, giving Rattler fans a look into the future.  

  Brandon Rembert epitomizes the success of these programs.  A former collegiate baseball player for Alcorn State University, Brandon currently works for the Pittsburgh Pirates Organization as a Minor League Baseball Operations Assistant. Born and raised in Pensacola, Florida, Brandon took up t-ball at a young age, developing a deep love for the game the older he became.

  Bam Adebayo showcased his prowess with 26 points and 17 rebounds, while rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr. contributed a career-high 20 points as the Miami Heat, playing without key players, secured a 117-109 victory against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night.

     With plans for a new men’s volleyball team to compete starting in 2025-2026 in the NEC (Northeast Conference), UMES becomes the first NCAA Div. I HBCU to add men’s volleyball and the 68th school to sponsor the fast-growing sport at the NCAA DI-II level.
