    Broward County Library Celebrates Juneteenth

     Celebrating Freedom with special guests, performers and activities

       BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Broward County Library (BCL) commemorates Juneteenth, the oldest known celebration honoring the official end of slavery in the United States. Enjoy special guest speakers, performances, discussions, storytelling, crafting and the legendary Blues & Sweet Potato Pie Festival.

    The 24th Annual Blues and Sweet Potato Pie Festival, a BCL signature event held at Northwest Branch/Apollo Park, celebrates Juneteenth from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., on June 14th with a day of live music, food, culture, history and family fun.

    The African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) will host Destination Freedom, a ticketed ($50 per person), adult-only social event from 6:30 to 9 p.m., on June 20th in celebration of Juneteenth with  lively music, southern food, dancing and storytelling.

    Other noteworthy Juneteenth programs include:

    • Blues School Encore with Clay Goldstein – Summertime Blues!

    Harmonica VIP Clay Goldstein hosts

    June 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Deerfield Beach Percy White Branch

    • Radiant Juneteenth Painting Party – The Colors of Freedom

    Crafting for ages 6 and up

    June 11, from 6 to  7 p.m., Carver Ranches Branch

    • Celebrating Juneteenth – Honoring Its Meaning and Your Stories

    June 12, 2:30 – 3:30PM, Margate Catharine Young Branch

    • Juneteenth Celebration with Dr. Phyllis Baker

    Dr. Baker takes us on a journey back to 1865.

    June 14, 3 – 4PM, Dania Beach Paul DeMaio Branch

    • Storytelling with Windell Campbell – Celebrate Juneteenth

    June 16, 10:30 – 11:30AM, Main Library

    June 16, 2 – 3PM, North Lauderdale Saraniero Branch

    June 17, 11AM – Noon, Riverland Branch

    June 17, 4 – 5PM, Carver Ranches Branch

    June 18, 2 – 3PM, Lauderdale Lakes Branch Library

    • Freedom Quilts: A Juneteenth Story in Fabric – Create Freedom Quilt-inspired Art

    Dr. Kim D. Harris guides the creation of a mini “freedom quilt” in mixed media.

    June 17, 6 -7PM, Lauderhill Towne Centre Library

    • African American History Databases (Online)

    A guide to free history databases on Black history/culture for Juneteenth

    June 17, 6:30 – 7:30PM

    • Juneteenth Celebration

    Celebrate with music, culture and community, all ages/families

    June 18, 1-3:30PM, African American Research Library and Cultural Center

    • Art Expressionz – Smush Paint Juneteenth Craft

    Crafting for young beginner

    June 18, 2 – 3PM, Main Library

    • Celebrate Juneteenth – with Paint, Sip and Sing for Families

    June 18, 4 – 5PM, Northwest Regional Library
