Submitted by Lindsey Marmorstein

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Broward League of Cities President and Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Bobby Dubose has issued the league’s first ever “Million Hour Volunteer Challenge” in an effort to increase community service activity throughout Broward County. DuBose is encouraging Broward County residents to complete One Million volunteer service hours by May 31, 2013.

“The theme of my tenure as league president is ‘Together We Serve,’ because I believe Broward County’s future will be determined by how effectively its elected officials and residents work together for the common good,” DuBose said. “I have no doubt that the citizens of Broward County can meet and even surpass my goal of One Million volunteer service hours in the coming year.”

To participate in the challenge, Broward County residents can log service hours on-line at browardleague.org/volunteer challenge. The Web page features a barometer to show the county’s progress and how many hours are needed to reach the million-hour goal. Residents can participate in any volunteer project of their choice.

Non-profit organizations supporting the challenge include the following Broward League of Cities Associate Members, as well as all other charitable organizations that wish to have their volunteers’ hours included in this exciting initiative: Aging & Disability Resource Center of Broward, American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, Aster Knight Parks Foundation, Broward County Schools, Broward County Supervisor of Elections, Children Services Council of Broward County, Community Advocacy Network, Feeding South Florida, Florida Community Support, Habitat for Humanity of Broward, iTrace, Military Debt Management Agency, OIC of Broward County, The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, The Good Government Initiative, The Salvation Army of Broward County, and the United Way.
