     The reopening plan resulted from collaborative discussions between the County and the Governor, the Board of County Commissioners, Broward’s 31 municipalities, community stakeholders and local business leaders. It also took into account extensive data collected from partners, including the Florida Department of Health in Broward, and recommendations from Federal Guidelines and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Under the leadership of Broward County Library Director Kelvin Watson, Florida Library Association’s 2019 Librarian of the Year, Broward County Library (BCL) and its programs and staff recently earned local, statewide and national recognition, including being named the 2020 Library of the Year by the Florida Library Association (FLA).

     The brothers of the Zeta Chi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, have been hard at work exemplifying their cardinal principles of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift.  Through multiple activities throughout the county, brothers have sponsored, facilitated or participated in food drives, uplift projects and mentoring activities for youth, families, fathers and the community. 

As the entire world continues to feel the impacts of COVID-19, my office and I are hard at work to put Floridians first, including the needs of workers, families, and small businesses. As we end National Nurses Week and Teacher Appreciation Week, I am so grateful for the dedication and professionalism nurses and teachers, and all essential workers, who are working harder than ever during this crisis to support our communities’ needs.

     May Week is a national program of Delta Sigma Theta that was created in 1920 to highlight academic achievements and to emphasize the importance of higher education in the Black community. This year, the program will be a virtual red-carpet event because of the coronavirus pandemic. 

After Mae Jo Fulton’s 100th Birthday some of her family members went to the Social Security Office and found out a mistake was made with the birth day dated May 12, 1918, which was incorrect. Her correct birthday is May 12, 1917 which makes her now 103 years old. Happy 103rd Birthday!!!
