May Week is a national program of Delta Sigma Theta that was created in 1920 to highlight academic achievements and to emphasize the importance of higher education in the Black community. This year, the program will be a virtual red-carpet event because of the coronavirus pandemic.

After Mae Jo Fulton’s 100th Birthday some of her family members went to the Social Security Office and found out a mistake was made with the birth day dated May 12, 1918, which was incorrect. Her correct birthday is May 12, 1917 which makes her now 103 years old. Happy 103rd Birthday!!!
COVID-19 Is Latest Evidence Political Leaders Lack Vision About Voters
Adenah Bayoh, owner of three IHOP restaurants in New Jersey, has announced that she will be providing free take-out breakfast and lunch on weekdays every day until school reopens. As a former child refugee who escaped the civil war in her home country of Liberia, she says that she very much understands the need to empower disadvantaged and low income communities.
Jogging While Black is dangerous in any so-called white neighborhood but in gentrified Atlanta and in other gentrified American cities, white people walk their poodles, push their baby carriages and jog on the Atlanta Beltline that weaves through what used to be some of Atlanta, Georgia’s most dangerous locales.
INCARACERATED BUT AWARE
Black men are being stalked and killed in the US–business as usual. Ahmaud Arbery’s murder was based on: “He’s a Black man running down our road.” Punishment for the crime of being Black is sometimes death.
Earlier this week, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the easing of stay at home orders and a partial re-opening of Florida starting on Monday, except in Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade counties. Despite phase one of the Governor’s plan to re-open, I have heard from far too many of our neighbors that Florida’s unemployment system continues to fail them, at a time when help is needed the most. As unemployment claims across our country exceeded the 30 million mark this week, Florida took the lead with more unemployment claims filed each week than any other state. Last week alone, 432,465 jobless claims were filed in Florida.
This week our Florida governor decided to reopen parks for walking and running, and even golf courses. However, playgrounds, basketball, and tennis courts are closed until further notice.
This is going to be a difficult Mother’s Day since we cannot go out. However, this should be the Mother’s Day that we will do the most for our mothers and mother figures.
