This past weekend Civil Rights activist and Congressman John Lewis passed away. Representative Lewis organized sit-in demonstrations at segregated lunch counters in Tennessee. He was severely beaten by mobs and arrested by police for challenging the injustice of Jim Crow segregation in the South. Despite more than 40 arrests, physical attacks and serious injuries, Representative John Robert Lewis remained a devoted advocate of nonviolence. He made a tremendous impact in society and will never be forgotten. He was a true American hero!
