This is a time of tremendous evolution in our industries. We are on the cusp of a complete transition in mobility. A transition to clean energy and clean vehicles. At the UAW, we have been heavily involved in the national discussion on how we can successfully navigate this transition.
How can we better prepare? It is the question every public safety professional asks and the motivation behind everything we do. Better preparation allows for the best possible response to any incident. Often the incidents or disasters we prepare for are unplanned, happening with little to no warning. However, by training for the unexpected, we remain ready to respond.

Even after over 635,000 have died in the U.S. as a result of the coronavirus, some celebrities have continued to loudly protest against the advice of doctors and other medical professionals. Over 4.5 million around the world have died as a result of the pandemic.
I was proud to work hard for the election of President Joe Biden. And I was proud to protest outside the Biden White House on Aug. 24. Along with other voting rights activists, including our co-organizers at the League of Women Voters, I called on President Biden to do more to protect voting rights under attack from Republican state legislators all across the country.
Afghan Deja Vu
Americans watched in horror as Afghanistan’s Capitol Building and its government toppled with little or no resistance from Afghanistan’s U.S. trained military. But the real unseen nightmare forced upon Americans is the 20 years of senseless struggle, two trillion dollars wasted, and tens of thousands of casualties and deaths.
Social anthropology suggests that human experiences have impacts on how people see and experience the world. Theory suggests that people in places that experience more lightning—like the south—see the magical flashing this way whereas people who experience more wildfires—like the west—see the glow as a fire. In my lifetime there have been dramatic increases in wildfires and thunderstorms. The world is changing, and we are losing so much in the process. Whether you call them fireflies or lightning bugs their population is shrinking. Like with so many species, habitat loss, pesticides, and other environmental factors threaten their survival.
