It’s easy to conclude that it’s not. In 1915, as national governments produced the shocking carnage of World War I, Ralph Chaplin, an activist in the Industrial Workers of the World, wrote his stirring song, “Solidarity Forever.” Taken up by unions around the globe, it proclaimed that there was “no power greater anywhere beneath the sun” than international working class solidarity. But, today, despite Chaplin’s dream of bringing to birth “a new world from the ashes of the old,” the world remains sharply divided by national boundaries—boundaries that are usually quite rigid, policed by armed guards, and ultimately enforced through that traditional national standby, war.
We may be living in the denouement of American democracy. Especially as it touches free and just and fair elections. Degree by degree those driven by the Big Lie are determined to forego the democratic voting process for a virulent, extreme political allegiance.
Mask Wearing is an African Tradition
In the strongest possible terms, the NAACP condemns the incendiary comments made by Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick in an interview with Fox News this past week. Plain and simple, unvaccinated African Americans in Texas are not the cause of the surging cases of COVID-19 plaguing the state, nor is this the case across the country. These are the facts.
On July 27th, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released an updated guidance to Americans, which has been up-dated again on August 12th, 2021. Essentially the CDC is issuing new guidance every two weeks as they gather more knowledge about this highly contagious Delta variant of Covid-19.
The Afghanistan bungled withdrawal has appeared to cause immeasurable guilt for Americans sympathetic with the plight of Afghans caught in harm’s way of the Taliban, especially amongst a core of military veterans. The enduring motto of Veterans is, “leave no fellow soldier behind.” Understandably, this honorable vow has resulted with the savings of countless lives. For our military to mainTain this value within its ranks, it has required tremendous valor and sacrifices.
