I congratulate New York City’s Democratic mayoral nominee, Eric Adams. He will be a strong new mayor of our nation’s largest and most diverse city.  Adams has promised to address homelessness in the city, a problem that has grown increasingly desperate as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to cripple the economy and drive record numbers of individuals into bleak and unwelcoming shelters.

On January 20, 2015, at his State of the Union Address, Ex-President Obama made a statement that the environment (climate change) would be the number one challenge in America and the world.  I personally thought he was incorrect, but I was well aware that the environment was something that human beings could not control. The devastating climate change had the power to create was indescribable, and I knew it was necessary to do more investigating and studying to understand the significance of the ex-president’s statement.

Presidents George W. Bush, Barack H. Obama and Donald J. Trump all sat in office while American troops were stationed at risk in Afghanistan.  Bush, who initiated the Gulf War, also sent troops into Afghanistan to seek out Osama Bin Laden who had been responsible for the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil in the attacks of September 11, 2001.  Claiming intelligence had pointed to Afghanistan as the harboring territory of Bin Laden, the U.S. military and a coalition of countries went after Al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

Abortion was NOT always a topic in the national discourse! Republicans turned it into a draw for their evangelical voter base. Reagan paraded the pro-life stance in his presidential bid, despite liberalizing California’s abortion laws as governor! The GOP never lets hypocrisy get in the way, and it’s been downhill for women’s bodily autonomy ever since.

For more than 1,500 years, Europeans and their cultural descendants have been defining reality for the people they have subjugated around the world.

America can now add the Afghanistan War,  including Korean and Vietnam, as another tragedy and costly defeat. The premise for the first two wars was to stop the spread of communism. The war in Afghanistan resulted from our efforts to capture and punish Osama bin Laden. History revealed Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s ill-fated decision to rely on airstrikes and untrained Afghan militias to attack bin Laden’s hideout and to seal his escape routes failed. This failure caused ripple effects which led to 20 years of senseless struggles in Afghanistan.
