  One of the staples of Mt. Hermon’s month-long Black History observance is Greek Unity Day. On Sunday, February 19, 2023, Mt. Hermon AME Church celebrates its 29th Greek Unity Day observance at its 9:00 AM service under the dynamic leadership of Reverend Henry E. Green, III (Pastor Trae). 

     Through this program we annually acknowledge and recognize Black Greek lettered organizations for their numerous contributions and accomplishments. Each year we select a member of one of the fraternities or sororities to serve as the keynote speaker for this occasion. This year, Reverend Cyril Guerra, representing our featured organization – The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. – has been invited to proclaim the word for this the 29th Greek Unity Day observance at Mt. Hermon, Fort Lauderdale.

     Judge Marcia Cooke was the first Black female federal judge in the United States Southern District. She was diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer that took her life at age 68 on Jan. 27 in Detroit, where she died surrounded by loved ones.

     Pope Francis called laws that criminalize homosexuality “unjust,” saying God loves all his children just as they are. He called on Catholic bishops who support the laws to welcome LGBTQ people into the church.
