The Urban League of Broward County is celebrating a series of remarkable achievements, each highlighting its profound commitment to empowering the local community, uplifting Black history, and fostering leadership. With the support of generous grants and the dedicated work of exceptional leaders, the organization is making strides toward a brighter future for Broward County.

$10,000 Grant for Youth-Led Black History Showcase

The Urban League recently received a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Broward, as part of their “40 for 40 Spread the Love” initiative celebrating the Foundation’s 40th anniversary. This initiative awards $400,000 to 40 nonprofits creating positive change in Broward County. With this grant, the Urban League will support its youth-led Black History Showcase and Art Gallery Reception, a project designed to spotlight Black history and culture through the eyes of young people. The event will:

    • Promote cultural awareness and honor Black heritage,
    • Empower youth with opportunities for leadership and creative expression, and
    • Strengthen community inclusivity.

Honoring Alica Brown, 2024 Outstanding Fundraising Executive

The Urban League is also proud to celebrate Alica Brown, Senior Vice President of Philanthropy and Communications, who has been named the 2024 Outstanding Fundraising Executive by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). This honor recognizes Alica’s visionary leadership and dedication to advancing the League’s mission. Her tireless commitment to positive change has made a lasting impact on Broward County. Alica will be celebrated at the 37th Annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon on November 14th, where she will be recognized alongside other outstanding individuals and organizations committed to making a difference.

Empowering Leadership: Courtnee Biscardi Joins Fifth Third’s Prestigious Program

In another milestone, Courtnee Biscardi, the Urban League’s Executive Vice President, has been selected for the Fifth Third Empowering Community Leaders program. This program provides nonprofit leaders with essential resources and training to drive transformative change in communities served by Fifth Third Bank. Courtnee’s selection is a testament to her leadership and dedication to making an impactful difference, and the Urban League is excited to see her continue to inspire and elevate the community.

These accomplishments reflect the Urban League of Broward County’s unwavering dedication to community service, empowerment, and leadership. Join us in celebrating these achievements, supporting initiatives that uplift our community, and honoring the outstanding individuals who make it all possible.
