    Chi Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Caritable Arm, A Plus Foundation, Incorporated presented a check in the amount of $500.00 to the Dillard Center for the Arts Jazz Ensemble. The donation was in sup-port of the students who will be traveling to New York City to compete in the Essentially Ellington National Jazz Band Competition and Festival. The nationally renowned DCA Jazz Ensemble has earned First Place at Essentially Ellington National Jazz Band Competition in 2011 and 2012 and First Place at Swing Central National Jazz Competition in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

    The A PLUS Foundation, Inc. is preparing to host its first inaugural music awards luncheon, Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Signature Grand in celebration of African American Music Appreciation Month.

    This year’s Emerald Award honorees include: Kyle Woodard; Ascension Peace Presbyterian Church; Ministers Mark and Bonita McClary, Redeeming Word Christian Center International; Al Parris, First Baptist Church Piney Grove; Sister Shirley Miller of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church; Eddie Butler, St. John United Methodist Church; Anthony Carter, St. Christopher Episcopal Church; Elder Gernald and Gina Hawkins, Koinonia Worship Center and Village; Shawn Williams, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church; Minister Eddie A. Robinson, New Mount Olive Baptist Church; Minister Craig Walden, Mt. Bethel Baptist Church; Ronald Smith and Edmond John, Mt. Hermon AME Church; Carol Davis, St. Ruth Missionary Baptist Church, and Mistress of Ceremony Minister, Vicki Flournoy of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church.

    Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the A PLUS Foundation, Inc. scholarship fund. The A PLUS Foundation, Incorporated is a 501 (C) 3 non-profit organization and annually awards $11,000 dollars in scholarships to deserving Broward county high school graduating seniors.
