The City of Fort Lauderdale has officially recognized the exceptional contributions of two longtime community leaders, Mr. David Nuby and Mr. John Wimberly, by proclaiming June 29, 2025, as David Nuby and John Wimberly Day. This honor celebrates their lifelong dedication to public service, education, mentorship, and community empowerment throughout Florida.

Together, Nuby and Wimberly have devoted over four decades to uplifting students and families, leaving a lasting legacy of leadership and advocacy across Broward County and beyond.

David Nuby, a proud  graduate of Florida A&M University (FAMU) and Florida State University, served the United States in Federal Law Enforcement with honor for more than 22 years.

Throughout his career,  Nuby has championed fairness, rehabilitation, and second chances for those navigating the justice system.

John Wimberly, a native of Broward County and a graduate of Blanche Ely High School and FAMU, served for over 30 years with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. His work focused on supporting at-risk youth, providing guidance, structure, and hope to those most in need.

Both men continue to serve as dedicated Life Members of the FAMU National Alumni

    Association’s Broward Chapter.

Mr. Nuby currently holds the position of Sergeant-at-Arms, while Mr.  Wimberly serves as Parliamentarian, following an impactful and highly successful tenure as FAMU’s alumni chapter president.

Moreover, their commitment extends beyond alumni work. Mr. Nuby is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, and a former member of FAMU’s world-renowned “Marching 100.” Mr. Wimberly is a  former Basileus and respected member of the Eta Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Fraternity,

Incorporated. These affiliations reflect their shared values of scholarship, service, and brotherhood.

In addition to their professional and civic contributions, Mr. Nuby and Mr. Wimberly have played a pivotal role in fundraising efforts to support scholarships for aspiring college students. Their work has opened doors for future generations to pursue higher  education, fulfill their dreams, and give back to their communities.

Their tireless dedication to youth mentorship and community engagement has made an indelible impact— not just in Fort Lauderdale, but throughout the state of Florida and across the country.

By proclaiming this special day in their honor, the City of Fort Lauderdale recognizes the extraordinary efforts of Mr. David Nuby and Mr. John Wimberly and encourages the community to celebrate their invaluable contributions to education and public service.

Dated this 29th day of June, 2025.
