PETERSBURG — The Crist for Governor campaign today released an online tool to encourage Floridians to share stories about how the property insurance crisis – before and after Hurricane Ian – has impacted their lives.

“Ron DeSantis is the worst property insurance governor in Florida history – and millions of Floridians are going to pay the price in Hurricane Ian’s wake,” said Charlie Crist. “If you have paid thousands in premiums for years and years, only to have your coverage disappear when you need it most, we want to hear your story.”

Over the last four years, hundreds of thousands of Florida homeowners lost their coverage because of Ron DeSantis’s property insurance crisis. Governor Crist has called for Governor DeSantis to provide emergency, 90-day coverage for homeowners who were dropped by their failing companies.

Floridians now pay the highest property insurance premiums in the country, going from average premiums under $2,000 when DeSantis took office to over $4,200 today. DeSantis’s rate hikes translate to an additional $15 billion in DeSanTAXes that Florida homeowners are paying in 2022 alone.

As Governor, Crist called a special session that stabilized the insurance market, held insurance companies accountable, and lowered rates 10%. His Affordable Florida for All plan includes detailed suggestions to fix the problem with independent experts describing Crist’s plan as “tremendous” and a “massive, quick, quick fix for the market.”
