Florida A&M University (FAMU) announced Cateatra D. Mallard as the new Student Activities director.

Over the last decade, Mallard, a two-time graduate of Hampton University, has worked with students at Virginia State University, Radford University, Syracuse University, and most recently, Jackson State University.

Her experience includes direct oversight for weeks of welcome, fraternity & sorority life, student government association, campus activities board, royal court, leadership programming, fundraising and other areas of student activities.

“I am elated to continue my higher education professional career at the #1 Public HBCU, where I can continue to do the work for which I have a great passion. To know that I am joining an institution that is known for its culture, tradition, and rich legacy, that has a global impact, gives me an immense sense of pride as an HBCU alumna,” Mallard said. “Understanding that students and their experiences are a pillar and at the core of student activities, I look forward to working with my new colleagues and campus partners as well as bringing innovative campus initiatives that cultivate and enhance the student experience. The University has such a large impact on HBCU culture, and I am excited and committed to sustaining the standard of FAMU through student engagement while upholding the university’s motto: Excellence with Caring.“

Mallard succeeds Andre Green who served in the role until his death in 2023.

The Washington, D.C., native, completed a bachelor’s in psychology and a master’s in counseling with a concentration in student affairs administration/college student development at Hampton University.

Mallard is recognized for her contributions to campus activities and is involved in professional associations. She is former Diversity Advisory Group chair and a member of the National Showcase Selection Committee for the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA).

Vice President for Student Affairs William E. Hudson, Jr., Ph.D., is excited about the latest addition to his team.

“Ms. Mallard is a great resource for student leadership and student activities. She has a wealth of experience with student government, student organizations, royal courts, and student leadership training.  We welcome her to the FAMUly,” Hudson said.
