    First Baptist Church Piney Grove Celebrates 120 Years with Mortgage Burning Event

         “We paid off the mortgage!”, Brother Clarence Grisham, longtime member of First Baptist Church Piney Grove, announced to the congregation on April 7th during Sunday Morning Service. First Baptist Church Piney Grove, a cornerstone of the Fort Lauderdale/Lauderdale Lakes community for 120 years, is thrilled to announce a momentous occasion – the burning of the mortgage on their historic property. This celebration marks the culmination of months of dedication and stewardship by the congregation.

    Founded in 1904, First Baptist Church Piney Grove has been a beacon of faith and community in Fort Lauderdale/Lauderdale Lakes community for generations. This local body will celebrate its 120th Anniversary on Sunday May 19, 2024 during their morning worship service. The journey to this milestone has been one of faith, perseverance, and the unwavering support of the congregation at large.

       “The burning of the mortgage symbolizes not only financial freedom but also the faithfulness of our congregation and the blessings we have received over the years.” Rev. Dr. Ezra Tillman, Jr., Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church Piney Grove. Pastor Tillman was called to Piney Grove in March 2023. “My first order of business was to put a plan in place for us to become a debt free congregation”. This would include paying off the mortgage along with other debt the church has accrued. Out of obedience to tithe and offerings, along with sacrificial giving from the membership, First Baptist Church Piney Grove was able pay off their mortgage within five months!

    The mortgage burning ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 7pm at 4699 W. Oakland Blvd, Lauderdale Lakes, FL. The event will feature special guest Dr. Marcus D. Davidson and New Mount Olive Baptist Church, speeches from church leaders, a symbolic burning of the mortgage documents. Members of the community, past and present, are invited to join in this momentous occasion.
