Florida A&M has hired former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson as an ambassador and consultant, the school announced Wednesday.

The school said Johnson will support the athletic department and help in special projects.

“Anyone familiar with Chad knows that he has always been a great ambassador for FAMU,” FAMU vice president and director of athletics Tiffani-Dawn Sykes said in a statement. “It’s time to make it official. I am happy that we could reach an agreement to formalize his role with the university.”

“I fell in love with FAMU after attending my first (Florida) Classic in 1984 with my grandma, and the rest is history,” Johnson said in a statement.

Johnson, 45, spent 11 seasons in the NFL, most with the Cincinnati Bengals and played his last season with the New England Patriots. He was a three-time first-team All-Pro selection and a six-time Pro Bowler. He finished his career with 766 catches for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns.
