In this day and age it’s kinda hard to find people that can identify with pumping water from a well. There was a time when this was as common as turning on your kitchen faucet for running water.
How fascinating it is to watch as new irrigating wells are dug in. First, 90 feet of iron pipe and sometimes longer is used to be hammered into the earth.
This hammering process can take hours to actually knock this entire length of pipe into the earth until it reaches the proper depths to get to the perpetual water source.
It’s hard work with constant pounding of an iron weight, on iron pipes, through layers and layers of rocks, dirt and more rocks, sand and more rocks.
Then there is the process of pumping out all of the sediments and other debris while removing other unwanted stuff until you finally get to the clear cool water.
I found myself agonizing and analyzing through tears while sitting in church wondering how long will it take for God to pump through all of my scum, rock hard emotions and stiff neckedness before the good stuff comes up.
“Whenever our hearts in [tormenting] self-accusation make us feel guilty and condemn us. [For we are in God’s hands.] For He is above and greater than our consciences (our hearts), and He knows (perceives and understands) everything [nothing is hidden from Him].” 1John 3:20
It has to be a labor of love for God to never stop digging for wells of goodness inside of us. How can He do it? The work is dirty, tiresome and endless and sometimes I think that the ground can’t be penetrated.
If one person poses such an obstinate force what about the world?
How much stuff will have to surface before our schools are pumped cleaned? Even our religious institutions are laden and layered with what appears to be stacked refuse.
That which we have entrusted our children to have become corrupt and the family is foul and polluted. How deep and dire are our wells of hope, until the precious lifesaving waters are reached, or have we been contaminated beyond saving?
