Ilene Lieberman has laid the foundation to be Judge

     Broward County Commissioner Ilene Lieberman has had a significant and well-valued political existence in Broward County for the past 28 years. She has served as a Commissioner at both the city and county levels as well. Ilene is well recognized for her commitment to community service and her accomplishments throughout the state and in federal arenas.

     “For over 28 years, I have served as a Commissioner at both the city and county level as well as eight and one-half years as the strong Mayor of the City of Lauderhill.”— Ilene Lieberman

     Ilene has been an attorney in Broward County for 22 years. She has practiced before the Florida Commission on Ethics and the Florida Elections Commission in Tallahassee. She has also contributed research and writing on countless appellate matters. Currently, she is involved in one of the largest Probate matters ever heard in the Broward County Circuit Court.

     In her role within the National Association of Counties (NACo), she has helped write and pass federal laws about healthcare and government  finance. As a City and then County Commissioner, Ilene has had to hear thousands of cases which involved interpreting and applying the law to the facts.

     Her commitment to the com-munity is seen through her involvement as a Director of the Transplant Foundation of South Florida, on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club and she is one of the three founding members of the Swim Central program, which provides swimming instruction to reduce the number of drownings in our County.

     Ilene maintains member-ship with numerous service clubs and community organizations that benefit from her involvement. She is the Board of County Commissioner’s appointment to the Resource Recovery Board (which she chairs), the South Florida Regional Planning Council and the Broward County Value Adjustment Board.

     She received a B.A. from the State University New York, College at Cortland, and an M.A. from New York University, M.A., 1974. After teaching in the Public Schools for 5 years, Ilene attained her life-long ambition when she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center in 1989 and was class Valedictorian. Ilene has since been an adjunct Professor in Local Government law at the Nova Law Center.

     “As a Commissioner for Broward County, I have proven to be able to follow complex legal arguments and be a clear communicator. I have had the courage and independence to make decisions based on the facts and the law, even if those decisions may be unpopular with some.  As your judge, I will continue to do this.”— Ilene Lieberman

     Ilene is married to Stuart R. Michelson and has three children, Adam, 41, Jeff, 37, & Stacy, 30.  She also has been blessed with three grandchildren.
