It is Time to Hold Florida’s Senators Accountable for their Voting Record

It does not matter if you are a Republican, a Democrat or an Independent, right is right, and wrong is wrong. There are values and moral principles, which our leaders should use as a measuring stick to live their lives by. Senator Rick Scott and Senator Marco Rubio have failed the test, and they must be sent home packing.

The fundamental right in a Democracy is the right to vote, and in 2021 the Republicans have decided to change the rules. Ninety (90) percent of the Republicans are White people, and the numbers continue to decrease, as the Democrats continue to grow.

As people of color continue to change the demographics of the country, the target to disenfranchise citizens in America is minorities. It does not matter if you are Black, Brown, or Asian; Republicans must be stopped to be able to vote. It is extremely strange when the people who make the laws try to suppress the voting laws they are suppose to protect.

Violence is nothing new in America because the Ku Klux Klan was the first domestic terrorist group to kill an estimated 5,000 Blacks, who were just trying to vote. These Blacks were lynched, businesses burned to the ground, and their neighborhoods destroyed. They implemented Jim Crow laws, making  it virtually impossible for Blacks to vote.

In 2021, most progressive Black, White, Brown, and yellow Americans think this could never happen again, but history has a way of repeating itself. Today in 33 states, legislators have introduced 165 bills to restrict voting. This is only the beginning, because to suppress the voting rights laws, it is necessary to build political coalitions with the courts.

Courts are supposed to be impartial and interpret the law without bias or prejudice. But judges can make bias and corrupt decisions because they support the wrong side.

When Congress passed the 13th amendment, ending slavery, the 14th amendment guaranteed equal protection under the law, and the 15th amendment prohibited dis-crimination in the right to vote; however, we are still fighting today. In Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Texas, the Republicans control all branches of government, and it is time for the Democrats to go to work.

In Florida the citizens must build coalition to remove the two senators who proved that they did not care about the citizens in the state. In the last week Senators Scott and Rubio did everything in their power to block relief to struggling Floridians by voting no to the American Rescue Plan. As Floridians who care about people struggling in the state, we cannot let Rubio and Scott get away with their actions and voting record.

In Florida we deserve better, and the goal is to let them know, we got the bill passed without them, and we don’t need people like them in office, in our state. Stand tall, and let our Senators know what you expect from them on your behalf.

They abandoned Floridians by saying no to delivering $1,400 direct payment to people in the state, who are struggling and having a hard time finding work. They said no to financing rental and mortgage assistance, to people who are behind in their bills. They also said no to families needing child care, so they can go to work.

It is time to build a movement in Florida to remove both Senators from office. Some where they have lost their soul and values, and their leadership is going in the wrong direction. It does not matter if you are a Democrat, a Republican, or an independent. Right is right, and wrong is wrong, and our two senators must be sent packing for home, for their decisions.

We cannot let Rubio and Scott get away with these actions and their terrible voting records. Either you care about the citizens you work for, or you don’t. Remind our Senators they work for us, and vote them out. These two only care about themselves and not the people they work for.
