FORT LAUDERDALE, FL– – Lighthouse of Broward is celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day with its own Global & Lighthouse Accessibility Awareness Day celebration for the visually impaired and blind on Thursday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Flamingo Hall, 12855 NW 8th St. in Sunrise.
The free community event will showcase hands-on assistive technology and local providers while celebrating accessibility for the visionally impaired, blind and broader disability community. Guests will network, hear inspiring disability stories, visit with vendors, learn about the tools and resources that support independence and experience hands-on assistive technology demonstrations.
“During our Global & Lighthouse Accessibility Awareness Day we shine a light on the services and new technologies that are improving the lives of the visually impaired and blind as well as those with other disabilities,” said Ellyn Drotzer, CEO and president of Lighthouse of Broward. “There are an estimated 175,000 residents in Broward County living with vision loss and only 3,000 of them take advantage of the Lighthouse of Broward’s programs and services. We aim to change that.”
Global Accessibility Awareness Day is an internationally recognized observance dedicated to promoting digital access and inclusion for people with disabilities.
