    He Said – She Said

    Don Valentine and Nicole Nutting

By Don Valentine and Nicole Nutting

She said: Don, did you catch the CNN special last week on Marvin Gaye? Wow, that program instantly transported me back to the genesis of my political activism, freshman year at UC Berkeley. Black, White, and everybody in between, our college crowd was an outspoken and uppity bunch! We vigorously immersed ourselves in Vietnam War protests, civil rights issues, and burgeoning environmental awareness. Marvin Gaye’s album “What’s Going On” provided the backbeat to that era of social unrest, not merely a musical diversion but a profound commentary on the state of the world.

Sadly, his lyrics are just as relevant today. Turns out, if you live long enough you discover that life is one big circle. The time has come to suit up, show up, and fight this fight all over again. Now, where did I leave my cane?

He said: Don’t despair, we have evolved as a country since Marvin penned that song in 1971.  All we need is Love!

She said: To say “all we need is love” is to underestimate the evil out there fostered by Fox and Sinclair Broadcasting:

#1–Love is not something that will ever change their minds.

#2–The rest of us sitting around thinking good thoughts doesn’t further the cause. Only action can do that. That “Pollyanna” routine allows people to be complacent at a time when we need to double down.  If we don’t we’ll just backslide. We need to be actively supporting people like Stacy Abrams, while simultaneously showing the fake patriots that their behavior is unacceptable.

He said: To paraphrase John Lewis, It’s Time To Make Some Good Trouble!
